moments of mindfulness - this beautiful path
Left – right. Left – right. Left – right. Left – right. Left – right. Left – right.

There’s something soothing about the rhythmic beat of your footfalls early in the morning. The sound – a soft reminder of the slow and steady beat of your heart.

And this morning, instead of being pulled in a million different directions I was rooted within my own life’s rhythm.

A throbbing pulse. Calling me back to the miracle of this moment.

And sure there was a thousand things to do today:

  • Develop a marketing plan
  • Go over the latest landing page
  • Get on the phone with the client in England
  • Be sure to be on time to pick-up my kids from daycare
  • Go over my grocery list

But all of that could wait. All of it could be taken care of when I caught up to it.

Because all that mattered now was…

Look how the early morning sun reflected off the mirrored glass of the office buildings…

And the birds singing their songs. So free with the music of their souls…

And that breeze – subtle like a lovers whisper…

My path, my life is a beautiful one – once I slow down and bring some awareness to it.

And Thich could have said “this path” but he didn’t. He chose to remind us of the beauty of it. Our beautiful path. Even if it isn’t all rainbows and unicorns there’s a perfect beauty to it.

Even if the walls around us are crumbling – the greatest gift we can give ourselves and others is to walk through our chaos in peace. Because deep within us it’s there.

And maybe right now you’ll have to fake it ’till you make it. Give the air of peace. Walk and act like a peaceful person for a moment. What would they do? How would they speak? How would they carry themselves through the difficulties of life?

With each step a miracle is taking place. It may not be the heavens opening up and a choir of angels singing. But it’s there.

The gentle wind blows.

The flowers bloom.

The children laugh.

This is your beautiful path.
